Research shows that reading in a child’s mother tongue significantly enhances comprehension and helps them grasp complex concepts more effectively. Access to reading resources is also crucial for children to fuel their imagination and drive holistic development. Yet, nearly 50% of children in government schools in rural India do not have access to non-textbook reading materials (ASER 2024).
At Pratham Books, our mission is to bridge this critical gap through picture books uniquely designed for underserved children across India. We publish high-quality picture books in a range of Indian languages, covering themes such as Social Emotional Learning (SEL), STEM, gender, and climate. Our ‘Library in Classroom’ contains 100+ curated picture books in English and regional languages in an accessible portable book organizer. Containing picture books across four reading levels, these curated portable libraries support every child’s journey from learning to read to reading to learn.
Donate-a-Book is a crowdfunding platform that helps underserved communities in need of reading resources– public libraries, local schools, and learning centers to raise funds for Library-in-Classrooms for children in their communities. In the past 10 years, Donate-A-Book has helped distribute more than 500,000+ XX picture book libraries to children in need through the support of individuals, organisations, and corporates who care.
